Happy Birthday Android!

Yes it was 4 years ago today Android 1.1 was released! And what a ride it been!
Google has been serving us round and rounds of delicious deserts - each one sweeter than the last. All the way from the cup cake they drew us in with, to the latest round of ice cream sandwich with which they are now seducing us!

Android has come along way since the beginning and has matured a great deal, becoming the most widely used mobile operating system - in some countries even gaining a majority of the smartphone market! It's growth has amazed us all and it seems to not be done growing yet!

During these four years, thousands of amazing device's have launched powered by this miracle Linux based os from Google and each one pushing limits of what a mobile computer could do - whether in phone or tablet form (or any of the many other types of mobile computers that have been blessed with the brain of the little green dude).

Along this evolutionary journey there have certainly been 'key device's' though. Ones that were the most responsible for Android's evolution and pushed hardware (and software) much further than any other phones. For me those phone's were (in order of release) the G1, the original DROID, the Nexus One, and soon to be released Galaxy Nexus.

However, I'm sure many of you have your own opinions on which device's shaped Android the most and so of course, as always, feel free to share those in the comments below :)

I'm really impressed with how much Android has evolved over these four years! It has become an almost essential element of my life and I just can't wait to see all that still lies ahead!

Lucidity ROM ready for imminent launch

It's new ROM Lucidity for the Nexus One and HTC Desire (more devices soon) is ready and tested...officially it's launching week after next but I'm uploading it on Monday and sharing it with you guys shortly after.

It's based on CM7.1 (Android 2.3.7) and aims to give phone's a pure, fast, nexus-like look and feel with all the power from the amazing CyanogenMod team! Plus tweaks and mods of my own.

I heard Google will not be officially supporting the Nexus one anymore but I plan to great an ice cream sandwich based update to this ROM when possible.

I will be looking at support for newer device's soon but initially it will be for the Nexus One & Desire. Primarily because those are the devices me and Aaron carry and so can easily be tested. However we are both upgrading currently. Aaron has just purchased a Galaxy S2 & at the moment I'm gunning for the Galaxy Nexus so it's possible those could also get version's of this ROM once it has an ICS base. Don't worry though - we are holding onto our old phone's regardless so the existing versions of this ROM will continue.

So that's it for now...stay tuned!

ROM Update

Hi all. A lot of time has recently been devoted towards work and also to my new rom but of course update speed on the blog will soon pickup - particularly once I've got Aaron all set up on the site too.

I just thought I'd give you a quick heads up on the progress of my Android ROM: Lucidity for the Nexus One. I have pretty much got everything ready in terms of my own mods etc and given it some testing (currently running a beta version on my phone now) and now CyanogenMod7.1 stable has been released I'll update my base from the CM7.1 RC to 7.1 stable, give it a final bit of testing and then release my first public build (the all important version 1.0!) In due course.

Naturally when it's ready you guys will be first to know. As I said it's for the Nexus One but I plan to also make a version for the Desire shortly after (I do already have a few, as yet untested, Desire builds which Aaron shall be testing for me soon). If all goes well and people like my rom I shall also take requests as to any other phone (although it has to be similar, equal or better spec than the N1) you would like a port for. I should also say as I use CyanogenMod as my base and I'm am by no means a fully fledged ROM developer, I will only accept requests for phones officially supported by the CyanogenMod version I'm using as my base (currently 7.1).

Further updates coming shortly!
